Simple and practical, yet sophisticated and elegant, this expanding bookend can hold everything from one slim volume to a whole series in its lovely chrome coils, yet it's still interesting on its own as a sculptural object.
Details: Revere produced a large number of variations of their coiled bookends beginning in the Art Deco period all the way through to Hollywood Regency. This version looks like it was adapted from the Deco double coil bookend by a home hobbyist, taking the coil off of its leather covered base and attaching it to a finished wood one instead (while Revere produced many wooden single coil versions, we've never seen a manufactured double version that looks like this). The base itself is clearly fairly old so this was likely done nearer to its original manufacture than today.
CONDITION: Good vintage condition. The spiral has less wear than most in this style, although there is some roughness and distressing on the inside of one coil (picture two). The base is fairly unchipped with a good, somewhat uneven finish.
SIZE: Base is 12" x 6.25", 5.25" high overall
CIRCA: 1930s-1950s
SHIPPING: Shipping is free to the mainland US and includes insurance.
