An iconic mid-century design, this gorgeous lilac vase casts a spell with its optical oval patterns refracting the light like ripples on a pond. Made from very heavy glass and hand-finished, it's a classic look that works equally well with or without blooms.
Details: Czechoslovakia's Rudolf Schrôtter is justly famous to European glass collectors and American design aficionados for his wide range of beautiful designs spanning the twenties to the fifties. This 1955 design for Rosice represents the cutting edge of glasswork for its time, showcasing all of Schrôtter's trademarks beautifully: high elegance, optical effects, perfect balance, and absolute symmetry. The color of this particular vase is generally referred to as lilac; it's a subtle shade that could easily be described as a smokey amethyst. This design is sometimes referred to as Bullet vase, although Lens is the proper name. It was made in two sizes; this vase is the large. These are comparatively rare stateside.
CONDITION: Excellent. No chips, cracks or obvious scratches.
SIZE: 8" tall by 4.5" in diameter
CIRCA: 1950s-1960s
